UK Bangladeshis’ Action Committee update at 1935 Hrs GMT London Friday 17.08.2007 re ‘First Solution’ and the significant lack of movements and responses at and on behalf of the Bangladesh High Commission in London
The member of the ‘Bangladesh Centre’ Notting Hill in West London [who we have referred to in our earlier update published today] has confirmed that one commercial section official at the Bangladesh High Commission in London had been the subject of a complaint based on his obstructive, discouraging behaviour towards UK Bangladeshis trying to ascertain the facts of what, if anything, the Bangladesh High Commission in London was doing to help the people get their money back from the perpetrators.
We can also confirm that the behaviour of the senior most member of the Bangladesh High Commission in London until the first week of August who had stated openly his willingness to support the community campaign to get the people their money back, has noticeably become unexplained.
He has been significantly unavailable since 7 August 2007, the day that the CURRENT High Commissioner for Bangladesh was said to have taken over.
Contrary to the assurances he gave to this ACTION COMMITTEE to be prepared wiling and available to meet with us at any time along with two of his colleagues from the same High Commission, Mr Ashraf Uddin has not followed up any of the specific communications that were sent to him AT HIS EXPRESS request to this Action Committee.
Assuming that his ‘diplomatic brief’ changed on 7 August 2007, he could still have asked his successor in charge of the matters he did want to go into the overdue fuller discussion with to make contacts with this Action Committee.
That he has not communicated to us at all in context of all the High Commission’s statements and comments and expressions of commitments to help the people get their money back, shows that the PRESENT Bangladesh Government [whatever its constitutional description in Bangladesh] has either itself changed its stated position or that the Bangladesh High Commission in London has been prevailed upon by forces that have received response that have now given the perpetrators more space and more room so that they can go on failing to pay the people heir money back.
We gave due notice to the Bangladesh High Commission that we should be publishing the details of our communications with them.
We are also able to confirm that the Action Committee had asked the Bangladesh High Commission in London to explain all aspects of the Bangladesh Government’s and the Bangladesh state Bank’s role, knowledge and actions [if any] in relation to the now ‘inactivate’ ‘First Solution’ and in particular their [the Bangladesh Government of the day] and the various Bangladesh state agencies [including the Bangladesh Bank] role in relation to the conduct, activities of those that in effect controlled the money via ‘First Solution’.
This Acton Committee has NOT to date received from the Bangladesh High Commission in London any acknowledgement of receipt. Nor have we received any answer to the several questions that we have put to the Bangladesh High Commission. Nor have we received any response to any of those specific communications.
We shall be publishing some of those key questions and the relevant communications that we had sent to the Bangladesh High Commission in London. We began to send those a month and almost two weeks ago now.
